NOVEMBER 2007

Hello everyone,

I would like to begin by thanking everyone who responded to our call for volunteers to help to tidy up the green. The green was closed on 29th October and all the seats were stored away for the winter months.

On 30th October the green was tine and cored and there were lots of members helping to pick up the cores after they had been dug out. This meant the whole job was finished in good time.

A new lock has been put on the gate, which our existing keys will fit.

Our surrounding hedge is struggling against aphid disease and we are having it sprayed in February 2008, as this is the time when they are active, and thereafter twice a year. This means that the expense of maintaining our hedge is increasing. We do get a small grant from the Parish Council towards the cutting of the hedge.
I have informed them of our problem in the hope that they will allow us some extra money to help with the maintenance.

We know a lot of members were disappointed that we did not have a Presentation evening this year so we will be having one next year. I have booked the Memorial Hall for Saturday November 15th 2008. The committee would like ideas as to what format or entertainment (if any) you would like.
The reason it was cancelled this year was that no one was willing to organise this event.
So it is up to you all to come along to make this a success. Julia Miller does an excellent job organising the social events during the year with various outings and holidays. The new format for the President V Chairman competitions were a huge success, Frank Dickins' days out and the BBQ's and Fun Bowling organised by Chris and Don Bradbury were also enjoyed by all who took part.

We have had a very good season in our League Bowling. Our Sandbach A Team won Division 4 and is promoted to division 3 and our B. team came second in division 6 and are promoted to division 5. The prize money for these two successes was £300 for our funds. Individually we had success with Julia Miller & Wilf Chadwick winning the Sandbach Silver Jubilee Pairs Competition.

John Shone came 3rd in the Sandbach League Averages for Div 4.
Ken Swinswood came 3rd in the Div 7 Don Bradbury came 2nd in Div 6 and yours truly came 1st in Div 6. In the Vets league our C team gained promotion to the B. Division.

The new team entered in the Mid-Cheshire league had a good 1st season loosing only one game at home. If we are to continue to play in this league I must have at least 16 members who are willing to play regularly. If any of the members who played this year do not want to continue will they please let me know as I have to tell the league by the 27th December if we are going to enter a team next season otherwise we are liable for the registration fees. I did struggle some weeks to field a team with people on holiday etc, so I must replace any of the members who drop out from this years team.

Your Committee have been concerned over the reducing support for Club Competitions such as the Under's & Overs, Married Couples V The Rest and the Ladies V Gents, and most of all the Ladies Competitions such as The Gladys Heap trophy and Ladies Singles. If there are any suggestions which would encourage more members to take part in any of the said competitions please tell a Committee member. If you haven't yet entered any of these competitions please give them a try.

The Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and some committee members are coming to the end of their 3 year term and although most of them are willing to be re-elected, if you, or anyone you know, would like to take on any of these roles please let me know and I will let you have the nomination forms. These have to be returned to me before the AGM in February. On the subject of the AGM please come along and show your support for your committee and all the work that they do on your behalf. If there is anything you would like changed or discussed at the AGM please let me know in writing before January 16th 2008. Remember only items on the agenda can be discussed at an AGM. I have tried to include in this newsletter some items you may have ideas about

Our Club will be celebrating its 50th birthday on April 4th 2009. We would like to do something special to celebrate this event. The committee has some ideas still to be discussed but would welcome ideas from anyone of you. Bear in mind it is the beginning of the season and the weather could be a factor in deciding what we can do.
Dates for your diary 2008.
Prestatyn Trip Saturday Jan 26th 12.00pm
Memorial Hall AGM Friday 1st February in the Memorial Hall 7.30pm.

On behalf of your Chairman President and all committee members
may I wish you a very Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year.

Regards

Beryl
